Overview
itopia Labs is designed to work with across a variety of hardware and software, making it easy for students to access their Classes anywhere, anytime.
Client Device Requirements
itopia Labs is optimized for Google Chrome. Labs is officially tested and supported for Chrome version 90 and higher, but should work with other modern web browsers based on the Chromium engine, such as Microsoft Edge or Opera. Other browsers such as Safari and Firefox may not work as expected.
itopia Labs works across desktop and laptop devices running Google Chrome OS, Microsoft Windows, and Apple MacOS. Mobile devices such as Android tablets or iPads are not officially supported and may encounter issues.
As a general rule, Labs should perform well on most devices manufactured since 2017; older devices and "ultra low-cost" devices may lack certain features such as hardware-accelerated video decoding and may perform poorly.
The tables below provide recommended device specifications for each platform.

Checking Device Compatibility
One of the most important device compatibility features is hardware-accelerated video decoding; itopia Labs is effectively a video stream of a remote desktop session that is performing the heavy-duty computing, and thus the most resource-intensive task on the client device is decoding this video stream.
Labs currently uses the industry-standard H.264 codec for encoding the desktop session. Virtually all CPUs/GPUs manufactured since 2015 support some level of hardware decoding for H.264 (also called advanced video coding or AVC). You can confirm that your device and your Chrome browser support hardware decoding using the following steps:
- Open a new Chrome browser window.
- In the address bar, type: chrome://gpu and press [ENTER]/[RETURN]
- In the top section (Graphic Feature Status), ensure that the following features show Hardware accelerated:
- Canvas
- Video Decode
